Eye Opener

Continuation from MY FIRST CAKE...April 2007....
The fondant decoration class at Bagus has indeed boost my confidence & I yearn for more...my luck BAGUS Taman Permata offered 'Buttercream Decoration' workshop in ..... We were taught 4 different flowers by Chef Eugene. Roses, Lily, Sunflower and Iris. After practising & perfecting the skills, we were asked to decorate our own cake. I chosed to do Iris...the easiest one for me. This is the outcome:

What do you think? Need some lesson in color combination though!
The best part is I met this lady who has been doing cakes from home.Chatting with her, makes me think,"If she can do it, so can I!" She was kind enough to give me her brochures & some encouragement. So that's where I start!Source URL: https://pucturu.blogspot.com/2010/01/

Western Cowboy Boots

    Western Cowboy Boots

History has it that the western cowboy boot came about after the civil war when many southerners migrated to Texas taking with them their noble footwear – the Wellington Boot. At that time, the Wellington had a low cut heel that was calf high. It was quickly adopted by the Texans who gave their own western interpretation to this footwear – hence, the western cowboy boot. Today, the Western cowboy boot is a staple in fashion all the world over.

In 1954, the western boot changed to keep in stride with the growing popularity of the rodeo. A lower heel and rounder toe was necessary to accommodate the wear and tear competitors required to compete. By the 70's television and theater influenced the western boot “look” and style and fashion trends took hold. Some have high heels and pointed toes, while others stick with tradition and have a lower heel and a rounded toe for the true cowboy.Western Cowboy Boots

Custom-made western cowboy boots take about 45 hours to make. These hours of labor are reflected in the price of a pair of western boots, because prices can be steep. Colors range from traditional browns and blacks to red, blue and gray. Decorations include the toe wrinkle and stitch lines across the toe top seem to be popular additions. There are different types of the western boot including the Roper that has a shorter shaft, rounded toe and straight, low heel. The Packer is a high boot with laces and the Lacer is, in fact, a lace up.

Back to Class 3

    26 December 2009

A perfect ending to my 2009 cake activities...my Wilton Fondant & Tiered Cakes workshop. The same five ladies plus two new ones. One of them is a 16 year old girl. Wow..

We learned to decorate a square cake...gift cake. I have done a similar cake design a few times before but nonetheless, I get to learn a few more useful tips from the instructor. Cool...

Next are these royal icing flowers: Poinsettia (pink), Morning Glory (Purple), Petunia(Yellow) and Easter Lily (White). They takes awhile to dry but a good alternative to gumpaste flowers.

    My roses...Wilton style:

    My final cake:

    The Class 3 graduates...with our instructor & "Yummie" owner,Cynthia :

    Our work...amazing!

Black Cowboy Boots

English theme Wedding cake

    13 December 2009

This one is for Faiza's & Zulkifli's wedding at Singgahsana Hotel, PJ.
The request was to send it to the hotel lobby. Her sister & the hotel staff will take it from there but I helped bring it to the hall anyway, only to discover that the floral arrangement on the table was so high it covered 2/3 of the tier cake. Ouch!
And guess what they don't even have a proper cake stand...just some tiny pan wrapped in aluminum pan! Since the kitchen staff were so busy & unhelpful, me & the bride's brother worked something out.
When I come back for the reception at noon, I was relieved to see the "jungle"  has been 'trimmed' and the cake is visible. Glad...so glad the mother of the bride took the matter in her own hand.

That aside, this is what I did....

Rose Garden 2

    7 December 2009

A wedding cake for my niece...made especially for her. It was such a coincidence that she chosed the one that I've been wanting to do. Simple but eye-catching! It's from Peggy Porschen's book..Romantic Cakes.
In the book it is 3 tier with the bottom cake 10" ( with cerise pink & dark pink roses ) but I have to modify because she's gonna 'drive' the cake up north a few days before the wedding. So, a 2 tier cake with base cake 12", with red & pink roses. Have a look & tell me what you think.

Roses, roses....many roses

    5 December 2009

A last minute request from my sis in law for wedding cupcakes....therefore, had to use store bought roses. The theme was pink & white but had to use some red roses to make up the total of 50 since no pink roses available.
I love the red roses with white fondant back ground...so classic! Don't you?

Red, Red Strawberries

    4 December 2009

Yati's order for a gathering at her home, two 10'' Victoria Sandwich & one 10'' Moist Chocolate cake.
Normally, for decoration on Victoria sandwich, I use strawberries, or strawberries & kiwi but this time I tried with blueberries & strawberries. Personally, I like the ones with kiwis & strawberries...red & green color combination...looks inviting. What about you?
